Positions Available

SKI & SNOWBOARD GUIDES​

Whiteroom has positioned itself as the premier guiding operation across Northern Japan. Operating across multiple areas with unique and challenging terrain and conditions we are now recruiting guiding staff with the skills and personality to deliver exceptional customer experiences both on and off snow.

Any position in Whiteroom is strongly customer focused so the right candidate will need great communication skills and have the ability to go the extra mile to show our clients the best of what Japan has to offer.

Working within a close knit team in order to maintain a collaborative approach to terrain and hazard management, we are looking for candidates with a proven track record of working within a guiding environment and snow safety operation. A clear track record of leading groups and working in uncontrolled avalanche terrain in order to manage scenarios independently as conditions change is desired.

Position Requirements:

  • Mid December to mid March contracts – full availability over this time
  • Previous experience working in Hokkaido is preferred but not essential
  • Expert level skiing or snowboarding
  • Good work ethic, dependable and on time
  • Customer service focus and a track record of delivering on customer expectations in the ski industry
  • Full driver’s license – no restrictions
  • Great attitude, positive mindset, and able to adapt to any situation
  • Team player
  • Adhere to our Health and Safety Covid-19 expectations
  • The ability to get a Japanese working holiday visa or experience/qualifications to gain a skilled migrant visa (minimum of 36 months guiding experience required)

SKI OR DUAL SNOWSPORT INSTRUCTORS​

Whiteroom is looking for qualified and experienced ski or dual-certified instructors to join our team for the upcoming season in our Niseko and Furano operations. (Min Level 2 and 3+ years experience)

Whiteroom is looking for qualified and experienced ski ,snowboard or dual-certified instructors to join our team for the upcoming season in our Niseko and Furano operations.

A Whiteroom instructor will be professional, have excellent communications skills and be required to provide a high level of customer service to create a great Japan skiing experience for our guests.

As part of our team, the correct candidate will need to deliver our full day or half day private lessons, which include pick and drop off from our guests’ accommodation. A Whiteroom instructor will be professional, presentable, have excellent communications skills and be required to provide a high level of customer service to create a great Japan skiing experience for our guests. Instructors will need to work as part of a tight-knit team and independently depending on the scenario.

Position Requirements:

  • Ski, snowboard or dual discipline certification holder
  • Minimum of a Level 2 qualification
  • Valid Instructors Licence
  • Experience of working at least 3 seasons
  • Valid First Aid Qualification [2 Day Course]
  • Clean Drivers Licence
  • Ability to get a working holiday visa or experience/qualifications to gain a snowsports instructor or skilled labour visa

GUEST SERVICES TEAM​

Our Guest Services team are the linchpin that holds the many moving parts of our operation together. This heavily customer centric role will see our GS team often being the first point of contact for our clients coming whilst also being the administrative backbone that ensures the smooth running of our tour, guiding and instructional products.

To succeed in this role you will be friendly, efficient and technologically savvy with the ability to manage multiple tasks at once whilst also being able to deliver on Whiteroom’s customer service standards by email, phone and in person.

Based out of one of our busy offices in either Niseko or Furano you will work within a close knit team of snow professionals to create amazing experiences for our clients.


Position Requirements:

  • Mid December to mid March contracts – full availability over this time
  • Customer service focus and a track record of delivering on customer expectations
  • Previous experience working in Hokkaido is preferred but not essential
  • A background in sales and strong communication skills
  • Fast and efficient computer skills – knowledge of the Google suite an advantage.

Half Note Bar Supervisor & Bar Staff

Whiteroom has the only true live music bar in Niseko – Half Note, and we are looking for an experienced bar supervisor and bar staff that can show a proven track record of results. 
 
We offer a package including salary, accommodation, meals and lift pass for the season along with other benefits.

Based in Lower Hirafu Village, Half Note is an institution with a long history of Jazz performances in Niseko.

Half Note is the only place in the Niseko area that features regular live music, special event nights and we also show a variety of sporting events on the big screen during the winter.

Our intimate venue is equipped with a fully licensed bar and we serve a great selection of food.

Those interested in a position with us will need the ability to work alongside a tight team, whilst also having the ability to think independently and manage the daily operations while having lots of fun.

Whiteroom Guide

A Whiteroom Guide position will be ideal for developing guides that would like to broaden their knowledge and experience in new terrain and a new snowpack. Working at a specific area of operation the guide will have the opportunity to input into our snow safety and hazard management programs.

Guiding on both our Tour and Private Guided day products the guide will continue to develop their skills in working with different groups in varied snow conditions whilst also gaining mentorship and training from more senior guides and avalanche forecasters within the team.

Position Requirements:

  • 1 or more years of guide experience preferred
  • Currently or planning to enroll in an international guiding pathway
  • Professional Operations / Pro Level 1 or equivalent avalanche terrain management qualification, level 2 is preferred
  • Experience working within a snow safety program
  • Minimum of current 40 hours first aid qualification
  • Developing leadership and communication skills

AVALANCHE FORECASTER

Alongside being able to demonstrate all the skills and characteristics of a Whiteroom Guide our Avalanche Forecasters will be focused on the creation and supervision of the Whiteroom Snow Safety and Terrain Management Program in conjunction with their daily guiding duties.

Taking a leading role in mentoring and training fellow guides that look to develop their avalanche forecasting skills will be a key element of this position whilst also being able to oversee the creation of the daily hazard briefings for the guide morning meetings. Ensuring all of Whiteroom’s standard operating procedures are followed is essential whilst also contributing to and updating any and all rescue plans.

Position Requirements:

  • 3+ years as a lead / senior Avalanche Forecaster or Technician preferred
  • Professional Operations / Pro Level 2 or equivalent avalanche terrain management qualification
  • Minimum of current 40 hours first aid qualification
  • Experience delivering recreational avalanche education courses
  • 1 – 3 years of guide experience preferred
  • Currently enrolled on an international guiding pathway preferred
  • Experience leading teams or groups in uncontrolled avalanche terrain
  • Excellent MS Office and related computer file management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to handle multiple, complex tasks

Senior Guide

Senior Guides will hold a pivotal role within the Whiteroom guiding team. They will be key in promoting and maintaining the highest level of international standards across our operation. A Senior Guide will be able to carry out all the duties and responsibilities of a Whiteroom Guide whilst also have the experience to act in a leadership role and be relied upon to assist the forecasters and guide supervisors where required.

Senior Guides will be able to lead their group of clients alongside overseeing other guides and groups working in the same area on any given day. They will need to be able to guide any of our products and deliver exceptional experiences on and off snow.

A clear objective of the Senior Position will be to provide staff training in order to improve the overall skills of the team. Working closely with Whiteroom leadership Senior guides are expected to promote Whiteroom’s core values and esure Whiteroom continues as an industry leader in Japan.

Position Requirements:

  • 5+ of guide experience
  • Holder of Level 3 CSGA, ACMG Ski Guide, NZMGA Ski
  • Guide Level 2 or foreign equivalent
  • 3 years as a Senior Avalanche Technician preferred
  • Professional Operations / Pro Level 2 or equivalent avalanche terrain management qualification
  • Minimum of current 40 hours first aid qualification
  • Experience delivering recreational avalanche education courses.
  • Proven record in a leadership supervisory role
  • Experience leading teams or groups in uncontrolled avalanche terrain
  • Excellent MS Office and related computer file management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to handle multiple, complex tasks
