JOIN HEATHER PAUL FEATHERMAN AND BROOKE EDWARDS WITH AN AWESOME BUNCH OF RIPPING WOMEN ON THIS 8 NIGHT/7 DAY BACKCOUNTRY TOUR THROUGH CENTRAL HOKKAIDO JAPAN.

This area has some of Japan’s most easily accessible backcountry. It’s the perfect place for those new to the backcountry or those who have done it before. Using the lifts in Furano, Tomamu, Kamui, Asahidake and Sahoro we will head into the backcountry for endless fresh lines. We will also spend two days ski touring through the Daisetsuzan National Park where you will stay in Kamihoroso, a lovely onsen hotel with views of the valleys below and peaks of Tokachidake and Furanodake.

In Furano, you will be staying at the newly built Hitohana Winery Hotel and Condominium in Kitanomine. Spacious Superior Twin bedrooms await each night along with a bar, restaurant and onsen (hot spring). You will also spend 2 nights in Bear Monte Onsen Hotel in Asahidake, famous for some of the best backcountry and deep dry power in all of Hokkaido.

Skill Level: Advanced-Expert + Touring

This tour requires that you must be able to ski the whole mountain with confidence and at speed in powder, through trees and in variable conditions. You must also have a very good level of fitness. Snowboarders must be able to keep speed in all situations as well as hold a high traverse line. Please make an honest assessment of your abilities whilst keeping fitness in mind as to not slow the group down.  Touring equipment – AT-skis or split-boards are required. No snowshoes.

Heather Paul Featherman

Your hosts and guides for this tour will ensure you have the best time both on and off the snow. Heather brings a lifelong passion for skiing and the mountains. She’s a former FIS alpine racer, 2-time National Telemark Champion & World Championship bronze medalist, an X Games finalist, Backcountry skier, skimo racer, ski coach and guide. Heather founded Ultimate Groove Telemark Camps in 1998, leading adventure ski trips throughout the US, Norway, Japan and Iceland. She is a member of the K2 alliance Team, contributing to the development and design of their women’s products. Heather lives in Crested Butte, Colorado with her family. A true inspiration to a life lived for snow and adventure!

 

 

Brooke Edwards

Brooke has guided for Whiteroom for two seasons where she heads up our snow safety program. She has called Alaska her home for the last 20 years, exploring and guiding the mountains and rivers of this vast wilderness. Brooke loves sharing her passion for telemark, alpine, and backcountry skiing as a guide, avalanche educator, a PSIA Level III ski instructor, and teaching steeps camps for women. An amazing soul with an adventurous spirit and love of people and the mountains.
